Teamsters Negotiating Committee Reach Settlement in Principle on National Master UPS Agreement

The National Negotiating Committee has agreed to a settlement in principle on the National Master UPS agreement, subject to the resolution of supplemental agreements and approval by UPS local unions. The term of the national agreement is set at five years, expiring on July 31, 2023. Highlights from the economics in the agreement include: Article 22 Part Time Employees: The committee increased the number of full-time opportunities for the part-time members. Local 769 UPS’ers Demand a Good Contract NOW!

On Monday June 18, 2018, UPS Teamster members gathered at four of the large facilities represented by Teamsters Local 769 in South Florida to demand a good contract. Many members started arriving before their shift began and others stuck around after theirs ended. They joined together chanting to management inside the building that they "want a good contract and (they) want it now!" This week the Teamsters National UPS Negotiating Committee convened for the ninth week of negotiations, and the union leaders discussed a variety of topics that are important to members. The committee met throughout the week, winding up Thursday afternoon. Topics that were discussed include pulling loads off the rails to create additional sleeper teams throughout the country; allowing destination locals to file grievances on subcontracting; 70-hour work week; health & welfare and pension; as well as wages and progressions. UPS and UPS Freight Teamsters have approved giving their respective negotiating committees the right to call a strike, if necessary. The UPS members authorized a strike, if necessary, by a 93 percent margin. At UPS Freight, the margin was 91 percent. The vote was conducted by electronic secret ballot and the tally was released tonight. Teamsters Receive UPS’ Initial Economic Proposals

The Teamsters National UPS Negotiating Committee received UPS’ initial economic proposal this week, and the union will be responding during the next round of negotiations. The company’s action comes after the union committee made its initial economic proposal during the last negotiations in late April. This week, the eighth week of negotiations, the company’s economic proposal covered Article 22—Part-time Employees; Article 34—Health, Welfare & Pension; and Article 41—Full-time Employees.
