Living Wage Healthcare Amendment PASSES in Miami-Dade

Teamsters Local 769, along with help from the South Florida AFL-CIO, SEIU, South Florida Interfaith Worker Justice, and Catalyst Miami, have fought to pass the Living Wage Healthcare Amendment in Miami-Dade County. On April 5, 2016 Miami-Dade County Commissioners voted 12 to 1 in favor of passing the amendment which will help thousands of working families access affordable healthcare. This victory marks an important step for working families in South Florida and gets us one step closer to raising the minimum wage. Applications For 2016 JRH Scholarship Fund

Teamster Sons and Daughters Eligible to Apply The James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund is now accepting applications for scholarship  awards.  The deadline for receipt of completed materials is March 31, 2016. Materials have been sent to every local union in the US and Canada, but if you would like to download the materials, please see the link below. Scholarship applicants compete in one of the five geographic regions where the Teamster Member Relation’s Teamsters Union affiliate is located. One category of awards totals $10,000 each. TEAMSTERS OFFER $10,000 REWARD

The Teamsters Union is offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the whereabouts of Sierra Shields. Shields, a flight attendant with Shuttle America for Delta and United Airlines flights, and a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, has been missing since Jan. 14, 2016. She was last seen leaving New York's LaGuardia Airport on foot that morning. The Queens resident is 5'6" or 5'7", weighing approximately 160 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. Monroe County Food Drive

The Teamsters annual food drive in Monroe County was once again a great success. The success comes at the generosity of many members contributing non-perishable products. While all the Teamsters who participate in this success are significant, in this particular picture are three of the driving forces, Becky Roberts from the Sheriffs office, Charlie Pons from the city of Key West and Zach McCart from UPS. TNBC Delivers Joy to Children in Miami Gardens

As part of Crystal Lake Apartments Angel Tree Drive, the South Florida TNBC delivered toys to boys and girls between the ages of 2 and 18 on December 18th, 2015. Crystal Lake Apartments Assistant Community Director Kenisha Cliett helps organize this event which works hard to help many less fortunate families in our community who struggle to keep food on the table and shelter for their children. We will be distributing those collected through programs in Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. Captain David Bourne to Walk for “iPods for Wounded Veterans” For a few years now, Teamsters Local 769 has been encouraging our members to support iPods for Wounded Veterans. Since 2014 our very own David Renshaw was named southern rep for the southeast United States for iPods for Wounded Veterans. The organization was founded by a Vietnam Veteran and a retired Teamster, and is currently working to provide iPods, iPads, eReaders and other materials to improve the quality of life for our wounded Veterans.
