Local 769 Toy Drive Delivers

Thanks to all the brothers and sisters of Teamsters Local 769 who contributed toys for our 2013 Toy Drive. This year, toys were distributed throughout the entire region that Teamsters Local 769 represents as well as to children still suffering in the aftermath of the earthquakes in Haiti. Local 769 Gives a Gift of Hope

United Way of Broward County came by the Union Hall today to pick up their donated school supplies and toys for their toy drive. The donated supplies went to Sunland Park for early achievers and the program is called “Give a gift of hope”.  Sunland Park Early Achievers is an initiative focusing on intensive in-school and after school tutoring, family literacy, and parent support in an effort to improve third-grade reading success. One third of 3rd graders in Broward County can not read at the 3rdgrade level. These children are 50% more likely to drop out of high-school.  Donations of the…

At a recent conference, Teamsters Local 769 Business Agent David Renshaw was introduced to a wonderful way of giving back to our brave soldiers.  Those who have and those who continue to serve the United States of America in all branches of the armed forces.  The organization is called iPods for wounded veterans and it was formed in August of 2010 by Paul Cardello, a US Air Force Veteran who also retired after 35 years as a Teamster from TLU 170 of Worcester, Massachusetts. Again this holiday season, Teamsters Local 769 will be collecting toys for children in need. We will be distributing those collected through programs in Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties as well as through a program which will send them to children still struggling in the aftermath of the earthquakes in Haiti. A short time ago, at our most recent General Membership Meeting, Business Agent David Renshaw introduced the membership of Local 769 to the Dear Soldier Campaign. Through this letter writing campaign, wounded veterans at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the Fort Belvior Community Hospital in Virginia receive thank you letters from students of Teamster members as well as from their friends and neighbors. Teamsters helping out in Oklahoma City

Don't send water and don't send clothing to Oklahoma City if you want to help the victims of the deadly tornado. That's the advice of Teamsters working on the disaster relief effort. They're urging members to donate to the Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund, every cent of which will help people in need. (Click here to make a tax deductible contribution.) Oklahoma City officials are saying 12,000 houses were damaged or destroyed by the tornado, one of the worst in history.
