Hurricane Irma Relief from Teamsters Local 25

On Wednesday, September 20, 2017, a tractor-trailer from Teamsters Local 25 arrived at Crowley in Port Everglades-Fort Lauderdale, FL. Manfi Leasing Drivers Jimmy Williams and John Curtin made the trek down to Florida on behalf of Local 25. The trailer was full of generous donations for Hurricane Irma relief. Due to the logistics in delivering the donations to the Florida Keys, the donations needed to be received, unloaded and then reloaded into two 20 foot containers. Teamsters Local No. 769 – Relief Efforts to the Florida Keys- Hurricane Irma

On September 10, 2017 at 9:10 Am (EST), Hurricane Irma made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson wind scale as it rolled into the Florida Keys. The center of Irma’s eye crossed Cudjoe Key, 20 miles east of Key West, packing 130-mph winds, where an estimated 10ft storm surge occurred in the afternoon. The hurricane caused major damage to buildings, trailer parks, boats, roads, the electricity supply, mobile phone coverage, internet access, sanitation, the water supply and the fuel supply. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) declared a major disaster for the state of Florida on September 10, 2017, opening the way for the use of federal disaster funds for people affected by Hurricane Irma. Teamsters Business Agent Supports Our Troops

On Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29, 2017, iPods for Wounded Veterans along with Teamsters Local 769 Business Agent David Renshaw had the pleasure of visiting with our Veterans at the Walter Reed Military Medical Center, the Fort Belvoir Hospital and the Richmond V.A. iPods for Wounded Veterans secures sponsorship to collect iPods, iPads, eReaders, Nooks, Bose headphones and other materials for our wounded veterans. Teamsters Local 769 Annual Toy Drive

Once again this holiday season, Teamsters Local 769 will be collecting toys for children in need. We will be distributing those collected through programs in Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach and Monroe Counties. Teamsters Local 769 is joining the Rivers Coalition to help advocate for clean waterways in Florida. Teamsters Local 769 was voted in as members of the Rivers Coalition on July 28, 2016, with shop steward Stevan Anderson appointed as the voting delegate to represent the local. 29th International Convention Wrap-up

The 29th International Teamsters Convention was filled with many memorable moments and a clear path for the success of our Union was drawn into the future. Numerous resolutions were passed during the week as updates on many of the battles we are engaged in were discussed.
