769 Helps Student Organize Relief for the Bahamas

Teamsters Local 769 partnered with the IBT Human Rights Commission, UPS and others to help a 15 year old Miami Art Studio High School student organize relief for Hurricane Dorian survivors in the Bahamas. On Friday September 13, 2019, Steven Ferreiro, a sophomore student at Miami Art Studio, hosted a hurricane relief collection drive at UPS Air Cargo in Miami. Supplies and necessities needed in Bahamian Communities such as toiletries, non-perishable foods, water, and more were collected and prepared to be sent via UPS Air Cargo. Local 769 Responds to Hurricane Michael

Following Hurricane Michael, Teamsters Answer the Call for Action Following the devastation of Hurricane Michael, Teamsters formed a disaster relief labor coalition with the Florida AFL-CIO to provide assistance to residents of the Florida Panhandle. IBT Disaster Relief has taking the leading role in setting up the logistics for relief supply distribution in the region. The labor coalition set up distribution points at local schools and other locations, and trucks began driving into the affected communities today to locate residents and get them essential items that they need to get through the aftermath of the storm. Teamsters Local No. 769 – Relief Efforts to the Florida Keys- Hurricane Irma

On September 10, 2017 at 9:10 Am (EST), Hurricane Irma made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson wind scale as it rolled into the Florida Keys. The center of Irma’s eye crossed Cudjoe Key, 20 miles east of Key West, packing 130-mph winds, where an estimated 10ft storm surge occurred in the afternoon.
