Josecarlo “JC” Hernandez was born in 1977 in Miami Beach, Florida, the son of proud Honduran parents. Raised in the vibrant community of Hialeah, JC grew up embraced by a rich blend of cultures that shaped his values, character, and deep respect for community.
Union pride runs deep in JC’s family. His father, a retired union carpenter, instilled in him early the principles of solidarity, hard work, and standing up for one another. Principles that would later define JC’s own service to his brothers and sisters in the labor movement.
A graduate of Miami Springs Senior High, Class of 1995, JC continued his education at Miami Dade Community College. His love of music led him to play drums for the University of Miami’s Band of the Hour, where discipline, teamwork, and passion set the tempo for the path ahead.
JC began his career in 1995 at UPS Hialeah Twilight during peak season as a part-time unloader, immediately earning a reputation for reliability and drive. In 1996, carrying forward his commitment to service, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and later continued in the Marine Reserve until 2003. The Marines strengthened qualities that would come to define him: leadership, courage, unity of purpose, and an unwavering duty to those he serves alongside.
After active service, JC returned to UPS in 2001 as a full-time package car driver, later becoming feeder qualified. More importantly, he stepped into his role as Shop Steward, where he fought tirelessly to enforce the contract and protect the rights of his brothers and sisters. From resolving workplace issues to defending members during disputes, JC brought the same sense of mission, loyalty, and integrity he lived by in the Marine Corps. His service as a Steward became an extension of his military service. Different battleground, same commitment to protecting those who stand beside him.
JC continued serving the membership with passion and dedication until 2023, becoming a trusted resource and advocate for countless Teamsters.
Family remains at the center of JC’s world. He is the proud father of four children, his greatest source of pride and purpose.
From Hialeah to the Marine Corps, from the Band of the Hour to the UPS package car, and from military service to union service, JC Hernandez’s life is marked by resilience, loyalty, and an unbreakable commitment to protecting and uplifting others, whether in defense of his country or in defense of his Teamster family.
