Mourning the Loss of a Legend

Mourning the Loss of a Legend

Donald Jack Marr 1947-2020

Labor lost a true champion this past Friday. Don Marr, 72 of Cooper City Florida, died Friday, January 24, 2020, with loved ones at his side. Many South Florida workers had the pleasure of knowing Don, as a Secretary-Treasurer for Teamsters Local 390 as well as a business agent for Teamsters Local 390 & 769. Don primarily represented members in the car rental industry in recent years and he took great pride in being a true Teamster.

In 1947, Don was born in Tecumseh Village, Michigan and graduated from Sierra Vista High School in Baldwin Park, CA. He began his labor journey driving a construction site water truck in California, which eventually led to him driving tractor trailers and equipment trucks for some of the biggest names in Rock’n’Roll. Big names such as Van Halen. Soon Don became a Teamster where he cared deeply for his brothers & sisters and fought valiantly for thirty-seven years.

Business Agent Eddy Valero, who worked with Don since becoming a business agent himself said, “Don taught me the ropes and really showed me how to be a business agent. I can never repay Don for the lessons I learned during my early years with the Teamsters.”

“The only thing larger than Don’s stature was his tremendous heart.”, said Teamsters Local 769 President Josh Zivalich. “His contributions to the Teamsters, and to in particular Local 769, will never be forgotten. He will surely be missed.”

Don is survived by his loving wife of thirty-seven years, Donna B. Marr, daughter Sheryl Lynn Cannon and her husband Scott Cannon, grandchildren Dominique, Jackson and Zachary Cannon of Boynton Beach Florida, brothers Tommy Marr and Warren (Skip) Marr of Texas. He is also survived by loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends.

Don will be missed by all of us here at Teamsters Local 769. Join us in paying tribute to a true champion for workers rights and an all around great guy. We’ll miss you brother.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at Fred Hunters Funeral Home 2401 S. University Drive, Davie, Florida. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Reception to follow immediately after services.
