United Way of Broward County came by the Union Hall today to pick up their donated school supplies and toys for their toy drive.
The donated supplies went to Sunland Park for early achievers and the program is called “Give a gift of hope”. Sunland Park Early Achievers is an initiative focusing on intensive in-school and after school tutoring, family literacy, and parent support in an effort to improve third-grade reading success. One third of 3rd graders in Broward County can not read at the 3rdgrade level. These children are 50% more likely to drop out of high-school. Donations of the toiletries, undergarments, notebooks, and toys will go to the hundreds of deserving children in this program.
On Friday Teamsters Local 769 will also be delivering donated toys to United Way in Dade and United Way in W.P.B. area.
**reminder to all to bring new unwrapped toys to your general membership this Thursday
