Special Weekend Phone Service For UPS Members

To assist Teamster members with the transition,TeamCare will be open this weekend. The Participant Services call center will be open both Saturday and Sunday for UPS Teamster members. Although the call center is normally closed on weekends, TeamCare is providing special member service hours this weekend.  UPS Teamster members can reach TeamCare at 800-323-9257.

UPS to Add Thousands of New Jobs

wpid-upstruck.jpgThe following press release is from General Secretary-Treasurer Ken Hall who today announced that UPS will add thousands of new package jobs across the country this year in the face of strong Teamster enforcement of the new National Master UPS Agreement.

The new contract took effect April 25 and is the largest collective bargaining agreement in North America, covering about 240,000 UPS Teamsters. It contains new language that allows the union to take inadequate staffing levels to an arbitrator in centers with excessive overtime issues. The contract also tackles excessive overtime by making it easier for workers to get on the “9.5 list” limiting hours, providing access to penalty pay in the first week of a violation, prohibiting the company from piling on work at the end of a week and allowing the union to address inadequate staffing.

New contract language also puts more packages back on UPS trucks and protects Teamster work and jobs by establishing rules for the size and weight of packages shipped via SurePost, which is limited to businesses shipping residential. Under the new contract, SurePost packages are now limited to 10 pounds in weight and less than 3 cubic feet in size.

The announcement follows months of discussion between the union and the company. UPS is now moving forward with plans to add thousands of new package jobs in all areas of the country. Hiring has already started, and the new jobs will be in addition to the regular filling of jobs through attrition.

UPS Retro Check Update

UPS members will see the 70 cent contractual wage increase in their paychecks this week for all hours worked last week. We have also been informed that the retro checks will be issued on or about May 27th. The retro check will be a separate check from the usual paycheck and will not be taxed at a higher rate. Retro checks will be paid for all hours worked since August 1, 2013, including overtime hours.

Your members will receive their retro check in the same manner in which they receive their regular paycheck contrary to what was previously reported.  If they are on direct deposit, the retro check will be directly deposited. If they usually receive a paper check, the retro check will also be a paper check.

UPS Contract Update

smallPackageDivisionLOGOEffective April 25th, 2014, the 2013 National Master United Parcel Service Agreement and all Supplements, Riders, and Addenda are in effect. Local 769 UPS Members should begin to see their retro checks in a few weeks. The retro check will be a separate paycheck to avoid being taxed at a higher rate and it will be a LIVE CHECK (meaning members who utilize direct deposit will have to cash this check).

New 9.5 and Surepost protections go into effect immediately beginning April 25th, and UPS will begin making retroactive contributions to Health and Welfare and Pension Funds immediately.

The changes to Healthcare will go into effect on June 1st, 2014 and you will be receiving information in the coming weeks regarding your benefits.

UPS Update 3-19-14

UPS Ohio Rider passes.


On Wednesday, March 19th, 2014, the IBT announced that the Ohio Rider has been passed by the membership.  Still outstanding are the Western Pennsylvania Supplement, Local 623 Supplement and the Local 89 Air Rider.  Ballots will be mailed for the Local 89 Rider this week and will be counted on April 10, 2014.

Informational Picketing at UPS Supply Chain Solutions

DSC00213On February 14, 2014, an information picketing was assembled in front of the UPS Supply Chain Solution facility. The purpose of the information picketing was to let the company know that Teamsters Local Union 769 will stand for your rights.

UPS Supply Chain Solution made unilateral changes to the employee’s health insurance benefits without bargaining with the union.

  1. DSC00222UPS Supply Chain Solution has taken the position to remove the spouse of employees from the health insurance if they have insurance at their place of employment without bargaining with the Union.
  2. UPS Supply Chain Solutions is demanding employees that smoke pay $150 dollars towards the health insurance without bargaining with the union.
