Roly was born in Pinal Del Rio, Cuba on October 3, 1963. He escaped the communist regime and arrived in the United States in 1970 in search of the American dream.

Brother PiƱa graduated from Hialeah Senior High School in 1982. He attended Miami Dade Community College and Florida International University, where he took several courses in labor Relations. He has successfully completed labor leadership workshops conducted by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters in Washington, D.C.

At age 16 Roly took a job as a bag boy for the neighborhood Winn Dixie grocery store. He was soon promoted through a succession of jobs, and his excellent performance was rewarded when he became the youngest Winn Dixie Manager in the company.

In October 1986, Brother PiƱa was hired by UPS as package car driver. In January 1987, following a transfer to the Hialeah UPS facility, Brother PiƱa answered the need of members by voicing their labor rights as their Shop Steward. Brother PiƱa thereafter served his brother drivers at the Hialeah North Center for ten years as Shop Steward.

In 1993 he was appointed to serve as Trustee on Teamsters Local Union 769ā€™s Executive Board. In 1995 he was appointed Vice-President of Local 769, and in December 2004 he was appointed Recording Secretary of Local 769. In January 2018 he was elected to his current to position of Secretary Treasurer of Teamsters local 769, and he began another term serving the members in January 2021.

In January 1997, Roly resigned from UPS and accepted an offer as Business Agent for Teamsters Local Union No. 769. As an officer, and agent he negotiates collective bargaining agreements subject to the National Mediation Board, National Labor Relations Act and the Florida Public Employee Relations Act representing members in their grievances, and aggressively organizes new members in a wide variety of industries.

Local 769 Steward Charlie Pons along with Officer/Agent Roly PiƱa make a contribution to assist in the fight against cancer while in Monroe County.

He participates in the Southern Region Area Parcel Grievance Committee (SRAPGC), which decides hundreds of grievances per month.

In January 1999, General President James Hoffa appointed Roly to serve as Human Rights Coordinator for the state of Florida.

In July 2000, he was elected to serve as Executive Board Member for the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement.

In January 2001, Cindy Hall, President South Florida AFL-CIO, appointed him as Vice-President at-Large for Monroe County, Florida.

In March 2001, 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2021 the citizens of the city of Hialeah Gardens elected him as their Councilman for group five.

In 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016 and 2021 he had the honor to serve as elected delegate to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters conventions.

Roly and his wife Rebeca currently reside in Hialeah Gardens, Florida.
