Business Agent
David A. Renshaw was born in Detroit, Michigan. He moved to South Florida in 1980 where he continues to reside today with his family. During his time in college, he worked as a full-time lab technician and in the shipping/receiving department at
Germ Free Laboratories in Miami. In addition to working at the laboratory, David also started a part-time job as a pre-loader at United Parcel Service in 1989, he then became a
member at TLU 769 in 1989. In the summer of 1992, David became a full-time package car driver at UPS. Late in the year of 1992, Brother David was elected to become a
Shop Steward and began representing his fellow Teamsters. In the summer of 1997, he served as a strike coordinator for the UPS Miami facility. On numerous
occasions in the beginning of 2002, David performed many special assignments including that of a Business Agent with the Teamsters. In 2004, David went to not only
UPS but other employers as well to educate the hourly employees on where their donations were being distributed when they would contribute to the United Way Organization. He was a labor loaned executive on behalf of the Local and UPS for an annual campaign for United Way. In 2005, David was offered the position of a full-time business representative for Teamsters Local 769. In 2009, David was asked to become the human rights coordinator for the local and under the direction of the HRC IBT director. It has been over a decade since David and Teamsters Local 769 started their food drive at their membership appreciation day (Teamsters Local 769 annual picnics). To date, the Local has raised close to 450,000 plus meals and growing for Feeding South Florida & Treasure Coast Food Bank. When the unfortunate tragedy occurred in Haiti on January 12, 2010, knowing that Teamsters Local 769 membership was affected, we sprang into action, setting up donation drop-off centers, working with the membership and companies, along with other organizations to collect goods. In June of 2010, I represented Teamsters brothers and sisters and assisted in the distribution of our first container load of 65,000 plus pounds of goods that we loaded up on our Teamsters Volunteer Day. In 2014, David was named as the southern representative for the southeast United States for iPod for
Wounded Veterans, which was founded by a Vietnam Veteran and a retired Teamster and is a program that is currently working with our veterans, www.ipodsforwoundedveterans.org. During the 2017 Hurricane season, David assisted the Local in regard to our hurricane relief efforts for Florida, the Florida Keys and Puerto Rico. During that time frame we were able to collect, transport and disseminate hundreds of thousands of pounds for the ones in need. In October of 2018, David was asked by JC 75 to assist in the disaster relief efforts for the ones that were impacted by Hurricane Michael. Within days of the storm he was in the impacted area working on logistics, within one week he and the disaster relief team held their first distribution location set up, during logistics & distribution the IBT & JC 75 worked closely with the state of Florida AFL-CIO. Since then, David was involved in disaster relief for Hurricane Ida in 2021and Hurricane Ian in 2022.
Currently David proudly represents different crafts & industrials within TLU 769, including: Airline Cargo pilots, Bakery & Laundry drivers, Food service drivers, Propane drivers, Paramedics & EMT’s, Cargo Shipping, Mechanics and Public Sector.
Currently, David serves on the Executive Board for Broward County AFL-CIO.
