Why D.R.I.V.E.?

DRIVEMeet your special interest group.

One of the biggest challenges faced by the modern working man or woman is political representation. All too often today, their elected officials are swayed by the financial power of corporations and their lobbyists and many elected representatives do a poor job standing up for the needs of those who put them in office.

The Teamsters have been fighting for working people for decades. The Union has championed the cause of working people on the picket lines, at the negotiating table and through the creation of D.R.I.V.E. Big Business spends big money in Washington to influence members of Congress and push their anti-worker plans. They outspend working families on politics by more than 15-1. Through grassroots political action and aggressive lobbying on Capitol Hill and in State Houses and City Halls across America, Teamsters have stopped some of the worst attacks on working people.

20140320_203139Over the coming days  you may have the opportunity to meet with a couple of our IBT Field representatives at your workplace. John Cuite and Kevin Currie are visiting Local 769 job sites spreading the word about DRIVE and explaining how we can fight back.

It was participation in DRIVE by members, wives, friends and even children that helped to bring about such monumental legislation as Medicare and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Over the years, other important pro-worker legislation has been enacted on the local, state and national level because of DRIVE.

So look for Kevin and John at your workplace. Stop by,say hello, learn about how you can help and sign up for DRIVE if you already haven’t. You can also click here to print your own drive application and join by mail. As General President Hoffa wrote,”The corporations have the money and the power, but there are more of us than there are of them.” With D.R.I.V.E. we can make sure the voice of working men and women is heard, loud and clear.
